Our Story

Cannasafe LIMS grew from the needs of a California based testing laboratory to provide a great customer experience while streamlining laboratory operation and compliance requirements.

As one of the first laboratories licensed by the DCC (known as the BCC at the time) there were many challenges in navigating the new regulations and compliance requirements. As the lab and the industry grew testing volumes increased the lab relocated to a new 12,500 sq. ft. facility in Los Angeles. Along with this growth it became evident that the software systems being used to manage samples and workflow were inadequate to meet the needs of this growth. Lab management first looked to off-the-shelf solutions. Despite there being many commercial LIMS systems available, many were antiquated and none truly understood the unique regulatory and reporting requirements of the industry or its customers. In order to be taken seriously within this newly created industry the laboratory needed a modern Information Management System that could automate reporting to METRC, state regulators, and provide an intuitive experience for clients and staff. They also needed it to be compatible with the stringent requirements for accreditation from the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).

Through careful planning and constant feedback from company scientists and leaders in accounting and operations the system was built and brought to life. This modern approach helped the lab become the first ISO accredited lab in the industry and catapulted the laboratory’s continued rapid growth, propelling it to a #13 ranking on INC Magazineā€˜s 5000 Fastest-Growing Private Companies in America in 2020.

As the industry continues to evolve management realized that many labs are struggling with the hurdles of compliance and while maintaining a streamlined operation, and that we had something truly unique to share. So in 2022 it was decided to open our software up to the world and separate the software from the laboratory. Diligent attention was made to converting the software into a multi-company SaaS solution and the software was spun off into it’s own company. Knowing that labs could be reluctant to rely on a competitor’s software the ownership divested themselves of the laboratory and went all-in on providing state-of-the-art solutions that will help the entire industry grow.
